Social Life
Although studying and learning English is the main reason why you have come to England, you should have fun at the same time! (In fact, over many years we have found that having fun helps you learn English!). We organise a full social programme for all our international students which includes: An activity evening at school most weeks (films quizzes etc.)
Extra-curricular activities. Several activities such as parties, video films, international quiz nights and indoor games at the school, are free of charge. Others, such as cinema, theatre and concert visits, sports evenings and weekend excursions, involve extra cost. This is usually cheap (less than £10), and we have arrangements with several local venues for discounted tickets.
We arrange optional weekend excursions by coach or train (with a member of staff) to places of historical and cultural interest. The average price of a full-day excursion is £30 and this includes the coach, the guide and any entrance fees to buildings or other attractions included in the trip Please let us know if you have any special or unusual hobbies and interests. We may be able to put you in contact with local clubs. Then you can meet local British people who share your own interests. This, of course, will also help you to learn English more quickly Example social programme Monday - Welcome party - Free!!Come to "Tiger Tiger" for welcome drinks. We have a privately booked room with a bar, where you can get to know your new friends. Existing students can come too and practise their social English! See you @ Monument, 7.30pm. Wednesday - Sport and games - £3! Football or basketball at a nearby sports centre. Meet @ the school, 5pm. Thursday - BALTIC Art Gallery - Free!! If you have the afternoon free try a trip to the best modern art gallery in the north of England. There's always a fantastic selection of paintings, sculpture and video to see here...but is it art? Come along and decide for yourself and then have a post-art walk along the river and maybe a pint. Plus see the famous SAGE music centre and cross the Millennium Bridge. Meet @ the school, 2.30pm. Friday - Pub and club That great British tradition comes to life as you experience the British pub. Drink famous English beer! Learn the English bar technique! Finish the evening in a club for some fun and dancing! Meet @ Monument, 8.30pm.
